MARINE STUFF (8) (Updated for 13 June ) - Next major Update July 15th.
This promotion is for iSpot Marine Hydroids
Leptothecata, or thecate hydroids, are an order of hydrozoans in the phylum Cnidaria.
Observing Hydroids is not easy - they are small and easily missed
Wiki and MARINE HYDROIDS is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrozoa
Look at this one https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/220920/hydroid
And perhaps this https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/664794/marine-hydroid-stola
Also one or two 'Jellyfish' are Hydozoa - see the elusive Blue-cross - Cosmetira pilosella here https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/637755/cosmetira-pilosella
The eariest Ispot Hydroid is this (2010)
There are fewer than 50 Obs in the gallery so they are rare Obsevations.
Close inspecion in mats of seaweed will usually pay dividends - but photography and ID is not straightforward
A few in the Gallery would benefit by having more agreements and comments.
The iSpot Species Browser shows the number of Observations in each Order https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/species-dictionary/NHMSYS0000841348/hydrozoa
Note there are a few Freshwater/Marine Hydroids - see an example www.nonnativespecies.org/factsheet/downloadFactsheet.cfm?speciesId=900
The marine tag is not used very often, nor lately by many people, but it is used to very good effect.
This is NOT Marine Habitat but Marine Organism - anything that lives in the sea below the mean HW tide line is (probably) a Marine Organism
But it seems to have gone out of fashion.
There are some BEAUTIES in the Gallery HERE https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/project/756895/marines-blog-promoting-marine-observations/observations-gallery.
ALL with the Marine Tag.
Perhaps spend a while there. maybe learn from the comment trails and BE INSPIRED to post from the seaside soon
And most Marine posters add links and comments for discussion - please add supportive comments where you can.
HELP SHIFT LIKELY HERE PLEASE https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/37722/eggs-on-the-shore
