The distinctive black marking streaming from the leading edge in a ribbony tapering wave...it is this deeply projecting outer cross band that sets The Streamer apart and gives it it's name..(Anticlea derivata; derivata meaning a divided stream)...and that the flash of violet dusky pink and dusting of gold make this moth an absolute stunner! Petite and firefly fast too! The first time is saw this moth, it had settled on a wall high up above the moth trap...I'd already checked the wall and was about to leave and double checked one last time...and there it was! This minute moth's violet and gold and distinctive black ribbony markings contrasted so boldly against the lichenised wall...I was spellbound! Flies from mid March to mid May.
