Long live litter

Long live litter

Observation - Long live litter - UK and Ireland. Description: ...well maybe not refuse sacks full of domestic waste, broken washing machines and hideously stained

...well maybe not refuse sacks full of domestic waste, broken washing machines and hideously stained mattresses. But if i'm honest i'm usually excited to see broken roofing slates, little sheets of rusted metal and the like scattered over a bank. Especially if they've been there a while and 'naturalised'. To me they then 'blend' into the location and enhance it by lending diversity and history. And of course, such debris is often welcomed by invertebrates, small mammals and reptiles as sheltering and nesting sites. Long disused industrial locations are even better - beautiful places with interesting topography to explore and wild flowers truly acting wild. Give me that over pasture, crops, woodland plantations of trees in regimented lines, neat, 'formal' gardens, or parks with lawns and tarmac paths any day. Each to their own :)
