Like a beetle out of water
Observation - Like a beetle out of water - UK and Ireland. Description: Going back through old photos, I found this one, which has to be one of the oddest things I have eve
Going back through old photos, I found this one, which has to be one of the oddest things I have ever photographed. I think at the time I just thought 'big beetle', but now I realise it's probably a Great Diving Beetle. And it's on barnacles, on a rock well below the high tide mark, on Marloes Sands. I don't remember now exactly how big it was, but the barnacles give some sense of scale. There is a substantial body of fresh water up on the headland (Marloes Mere) so presumably it's flown down from there. I see there are records from Skomer and also just off Skokholm Island, so perhaps they are adventurous!
