Taken before Ichneumons became more interesting in iSpot.
See - https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/project/816870/ispotlight-ichneumonidae - don't be afraid
I was always firmly told, 'don't bother with them' but now I do.
.
So a whole series of inadequate photos. I may have taken 20 because it looked so different.
The response from Gavin Broad is "It is an ichneumonid, one of the Exenterine genera, maybe Exenterus, but I can't see enough to confirm that.".
.
Exenterine, it appears, is a Tribe. a taxonomic rank above genus, but below family and subfamily.
.
But it is so unfair, how dare it be suggested that the pictures are not good enough?
The web does not cough up a single lookalike - I've been looking since August 2014!
So in 2021 I will comb that rich Hogweed zone for more.
But here's another Extenerus (genus) - https://www.naturbasen.dk/observation/3420592/exenterus-abruptorius
Another - https://bugguide.net/node/view/923513/bgpage
The two (so far) Other (tribe) Observations are IDd by Jaswinder boparai (NHM)
