Of furry appearance, about five eighths of an inch long with very short antennae and black legs. It has all the appearance of a hoverfly but I have had no success in identifying it. From
a front view it looks perfectly normal, buff, brown and beige striped body, the sideways view looks as if someone has attempted to wrap it in strips of lint. It has spent the whole day balanced on a blade of ornamental grass clinging on, in the teeth of a gale. Can anyone help, please?
