There have been what I consider to be hybrid campions at this site for nearly 40 years (that I know about). I decided to pick flowers and measure calyx tooth length (no very accurately using a ruler rather than callipers and lens. Then I laid the flowers out in clayx size order. The two specimens at size 9 were both infected by Microbotryum silenes-dioicae (see https://bladmineerders.nl/parasites/fungi/basidiomycota/pucciniomycotina/microbotryomycetes/microbotryaceae/microbotryum/microbotryum-silenes-dioicae/) which may account for their colour. Or does the fungus cause bigger calyx teeth?
