We inherited these, already in the garden, 19 years ago. They have never looked back and are very regular in their output. They seem not to seed but have spread to several other garden spots
They are a REAL TREAT at this time mid May to early June, when the buds form and begin to burst. Inside is a great 'handkerchief', folded, tightly packed, poised for the moment.
They do not last long and are a mess within a week, though the whole garden-bloom lasts for six weeks or so.
The name or ID might have issues - I had always assumed this to be Papaver orientale
