Observation - Common earthball? - UK and Ireland. Description: 30-55 mm in diameter. Brown speckles on a cream base. No stalk - the flattened ball sits directly on the earth with a fibrous fixing. When cut open, reveals a dark mass (presumably developing spores?). Growing on bare earth that was dug up last year an

30-55 mm in diameter. Brown speckles on a cream base. No stalk - the flattened ball sits directly on the earth with a fibrous fixing. When cut open, reveals a dark mass (presumably developing spores?).

Growing on bare earth that was dug up last year and is still bare, in a very shaded area. Hazel and holly within 1 metre; laurel 2 metres; flowering cherry 3 metres; thuja and apple 4 metres.
