A parasite of Xanthoria parientina causing reddish galls which surround dark fruiting bodies on the thallus and apothecia of the host. The spores are muriform, but I could not resolve any striations on the inside despite digitally zooming in on the spores shown here. The sample will probably need to be sent to an expert, but it is worth a post here as, if it is the species I am hoping, it may be a new UK record.
It was found on a hill rather exposed to sea winds but still about a mile away from the coast. Other interesting species were present, all on old ash trees.
