This twig with attached woody seed capsules was found by a member of my group on an outing to Craigmillar Castle Park. It was found wedged in the fork of a beech branch. As it is not from the beech tree it may have been blown or dropped in. I have tried to identify it and shown it to several others and so far no one is sure; the closest we have come to is that it may be from a species of Populus, however I can't find any good close up images of capsules to confirm it. Populus alba or P. x canescens, maybe?
