I photographed this specimen crawling up a rock-face on a nature reserve and was initially non-plussed by it, but later followed a hunch to search Flickr for "mealy bug" and it does indeed seem to fit this group. I had always thought they were pests of greenhouse/house plants and didn't know they could exist in the wild in the UK.

Can anyone confirm that it is a mealy bug or, even better, give some level of Latin name? Is it likely to be a native species or an introduction?

The rock face where I found it was above an area of grass with occasional ragwort, dock and foxgloves. Gorse, bramble and hawthorn nearby. It was pretty close to a foxglove against the base of the rock so that would seem the most likely foodplant.
