The second of three puffball groups found growing in a coniferous forest. All with a globe-shaped head, short stipe, and (triple?) spines on the head and stipe. Specimens clearly darken with age. The puffball head shown in photographs 3 & 4 released pale coloured spores when pressed; however, I found an online description describing the spores as being 'very dark purple-brown.
(The first and smallest group were identified as spiny puffballs c/o Fungorum, July 2016. To my untrained eye all three groups looked the same other than than group one being smaller with only app' 6 specimens.)
