Single male clinging to Gorse near Trig Point; note large adjoined eyes, glossy black thorax and abdomen. The eyes and thorax are particularly hairy. The comparatively large size (wing length approx. 10mm) and unequal spurs at the tips of the fore tibiae (Photo 3) point to B. marci. We observed swarms of Bibio Marci at this locale 8.5.15 – observation added to Comments section. Not sure why this year has been a low for this species? All advice welcome.
