Observation - Two likely predation victims – Shaded Area (cont.) - UK and Ireland. Description: The harvestman looks like Phalangium opilio. The second, I guess, is a female earwig (Forficula auricularia), though the cerci seem rather thin. Two potential predators so far identified around this part of the site are the soldier beetle, Cantharis rust

The harvestman looks like Phalangium opilio. The second, I guess, is a female earwig (Forficula auricularia), though the cerci seem rather thin.
Two potential predators so far identified around this part of the site are the soldier beetle, Cantharis rustica ( my iSpot post of 07/05/2011), and the robber fly Dioctria linearis (a recent Dipterists Forum post of mine). I am not sure if these fit; perhaps one could “reverse engineer” a guess as to what sort of predator might have caused the damage observed.
