Very agitated alarm calls from blackbirds in garden of house nextdoor to small chapel followed by swift entry into chapel (about 21 metres from where I was standing) of female sparrowhawk clutching prey and pursued by two blackbirds; however when sparrowhawk landed on the ground, the blackbirds flew away stll making loud alarm calls; sparrowhawk then spread both wings over his catch, thus concealing it from view, and proceeded to deal with it. Not wanting to disturb it I went away, returning about an hour and a half later when sparrowhawk had gone and only remnants left were of legs and part of a wing which seemed to identify the prey as a young blackbird
