I found these remains on the grass this morning; they had appeared since yesterday afternoon. There are three patches of feathers and down, which I have marked with sticks and photographed from left to right. In fact there are not many feathers (they might have blown away), and those that remain are a little over two inches long. It's a small bird and, considering what I see most often in our garden, I wonder if it might be a Blue Tit or Great Tit. As to the predator - I am reminded of a sparrowhawk which I once watched plucking the feathers and down from a Blue Tit before consuming what remained. I haven't seen a sparrowhawk in the neighbourhood for some years, but nevertheless that seems a strong possibility.
