Introduced in the eighteenth century about 1750, was called the Duke of Argyll's Teaplant after a species of Thea was sent labelled Lycium and a Lycium named as Thea.(See G.Grigson the Englishman's Flora)Widely planted in coastal areas for hedging and screening, and as in my photos grows very prolifically.
