Observation - Hoverfly? - UK and Ireland. Description: I can find nothing like this in my hoverfly book. The nearest would be M corollae but the shape of the markings still differs considerably. It also appears to be much hairier. I wonder if this is a hoverfly at all? It is obviously diptera and similar to w

I can find nothing like this in my hoverfly book. The nearest would be M corollae but the shape of the markings still differs considerably. It also appears to be much hairier. I wonder if this is a hoverfly at all? It is obviously diptera and similar to wasp mimic hoverflies. Unfortunately, I was disturbed whilst observing it and did not see it fly off so have only this photo to go on. We had S ribessi in the garden today but this was very different in pattern and far less hairs on the abdomen.
