Observation - yew - UK and Ireland. Description: We found these in 2 ancient woodlands on chalk in Hampshire (one site is listed here the other was Crab wood). The tree is Taxus buccata (English yew) and the second pic shows the male flowers. We didnt find any female flowers except these curious structu

We found these in 2 ancient woodlands on chalk in Hampshire (one site is listed here the other was Crab wood). The tree is Taxus buccata (English yew) and the second pic shows the male flowers. We didnt find any female flowers except these curious structures. However they cant be female flowers as they occur on the male flowering tree and yew is I think dioecious. Gall? if so, what caused it?
