Observation - Fungus on limestone cliff - UK and Ireland. Description: This strange fungus was growing on an almost vertical cliff of shelly Purbeck limestone in a woodland gill near Burwash Weald in East Sussex. It seems to be growing on bare, damp rock. No one so far has suggested an identity, but today I saw a picture

This strange fungus was growing on an almost vertical cliff of shelly Purbeck limestone in a woodland gill near Burwash Weald in East Sussex. It seems to be growing on bare, damp rock.

No one so far has suggested an identity, but today I saw a picture of the velvet tooth, Hydnellum spongiosipes, and wondered if it might be an old, wet specimen of that.
