Observation - Some features of this Sphagnum (Hedgecourt Lake) - UK and Ireland. Description: Found in Hedgecourt Nature Reserve. Key features of this Sphagnum I found: 1. Stem cortex not conspicuous. 2. Leaves of the spreading branches are straight when viewed from above. 3. Spreading branches not smooth due to branch leaves sticking out. 4.

Key features of this Sphagnum I found:
1. Stem cortex not conspicuous.
2. Leaves of the spreading branches are straight when viewed from above.
3. Spreading branches not smooth due to branch leaves sticking out.
4. Stem leaves more or less flat against the stem.
5. Branches attached to the stem in groups of five (average).
6. Stem leaves approx. 1/2 the size of branch leaves or less.
7. Stem very dark brown/black at the bottom, but getting lighter to green at the top.
8. Branch leaves not strongly curved away from branches.
9. Branches, capitulum and upper stem bright green.
10. Branch leaves pointy and relatively long.
11. Stem leaves appear rounded and very thin.
12. Developing branches between the rays of capitulum randomly arranged.
13. Sometimes hard to separate branches lying against the stem from the stem.
