Edit, 21st May: location - Oak Leaf on sapling in neighbours garden.(I put it in Location notes, but they only appear when you click on maps. I live and learn.)
My ID based on the size, 5mm, colour, presence of peduncle (seen in the cut section), shape, hardness and thickness and time of year. One gall is on upper surface, others on lower surface. There is no sign of persistent valves of a split epidermis mentioned for another species, Andricus ostreus. I cut open a pair of galls lying close together – the internal cavity has become a joint one. Photo 4 - when I cut another of the galls open, this was the fly inside.
