Observation - A Tird of Stars - UK and Ireland. Description: Tird is the word for a gathering of Sea stars The common name seems anomalous - anyone? Mostly very small specimens in these pictures - they can be 200mm across (PENCE is 10mm) It may be impossible to distinguish this species from Henricia oculata

But I was certain today; the colour, the frequency (Orkney is specifically mentioned in some references) and the rough texture of the upper skin.
The underside-picture shows the sea-squirt Ascidia mentula.
Picture 5 shows another sea-quirt (possibly Ascidia virginea). Picture 6 shows a distorted specimen - most mid sized ones seem capable of this strange act but they all have to be contortionists to feed.
