Male Worm pipefish

Male Worm pipefish

Observation - Male Worm pipefish - UK and Ireland. Description: A not very liveley 'fish' - looking, somehow, quite like a lengthy seahorse. Found under stone along with two butterfish. Unlike the latter, amazingly docile. Very short snout, visible gills in the right place but no sign, by naked eye, of any fins.

What was remarkable, which gave me a headache in the ID quest, are the regular nodes on the underside.
I stared hard and even have good photos but there seemed to be no clues on the web regarding these oddities.
Then I stumbled upon Paula's post http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/78127 and all became clear. A male then.
