The Downland Villa bee-fly was feared extinct, having not been recorded during the latter half of the 20th century. But it was re-discovered in the Cotswolds in 2000, and has been seen regularly there and in the Chilterns. However, it was still a surprise to find it in a London park, the first record for this part of the world.

Two individuals were seen, flying low among the vegetation in a lovely flower-rich meadow at Bushy Park (see habitat photo), during a Field Studies Council course.
