I came across some small clumps of these rare flowers by the side of a track/small road in the Marlborough Downs. They were under trees on a level area on the side of a chalk grassland slope, so not the typical damp meadow habitat. If anybody could comment on whether these are likely to be a natural population, or more likely to be from a garden escape source (though one theory is that all UK Snake's head fritillaries were garden escapes originally!) I'd be grateful.
