Common Laurel - often found in municipal and roadside plantings, as it is tough, and can be chopped by amateurs (volunteer groups, council workmen etc) without killing it.

Easy to spot at this time of year - very large evergreen leaves, held alternately with a "parting" down the middle of the twig. Leaves have very small teeth along their margin, a deep white central rib, and clear veins running outwards from the centre.
