Observation - Gall? - UK and Ireland. Description: 10-15mm long swellings on the twigs of a small low growing moorland willow. Insect larva within the swellings. The 4th pic shows a previously vacated puparia/gall? One 5/6mm larva was taken from one swelling for photos. Edit 27 Jan 13: The adult insect

10-15mm long swellings on the twigs of a small low growing moorland willow. Insect larva within the swellings. The 4th pic shows a previously vacated puparia/gall? One 5/6mm larva was taken from one swelling for photos.

Edit 27 Jan 13: The adult insect in the last 3 pics was noticed today in the tub in which the twigs were stored. It seems to have been hatched for some time. Sorry for the poor quality pics, my prefered camera is being repaired. It looks like a miniature sawfly I think?
