Notonecta obliqua

Notonecta obliqua

Observation - Notonecta obliqua - UK and Ireland. Description: I think the pattern on the elytra i/ds it OK, (and I have had others out of the pond to check them, and yes I got bitten!) but what was it doing out of the water? Is it attracting a mate, or preparing to migrate, or just having a look round? I can't find

I think the pattern on the elytra i/ds it OK, (and I have had others out of the pond to check them, and yes I got bitten!) but what was it doing out of the water? Is it attracting a mate, or preparing to migrate, or just having a look round? I can't find any refs to this behaviour - everything seems to be about i/d rather than ecology.
