This kelp which I think is Laminaria digitata is from a semi exposed location in South Cornwall and definitely had much more flexible stipes than the Scottish ones posted recently that I think are Laminaria hyperborea. These Cornish kelp stipes could be bent double without breaking and all were quite short, and were thinner and smoother than the Scottish ones. The fronds tended to flop flat in the water rather than standing proud of it at full low tide. The stipes did seem oval from the base onwards and the fronds are maybe a little darker (all L. digitata identifiers) but the holdfasts didn't seem noticeably flatter to me than the scottish ones.
