Solitary bee on Hogweed inflorescence

Observation - Solitary bee on Hogweed inflorescence - UK and Ireland. Description: The mouthpart of this bee looks broadly of the proboscis/sucking nectar etc. type found in hoverflies. Comparing these images with my previous post “Small solitary bee on a leaf” (Added to iSpot 3rd July, 2012) makes me wonder if bee mouthparts can come

The mouthpart of this bee looks broadly of the proboscis/sucking nectar etc. type found in hoverflies. Comparing these images with my previous post “Small solitary bee on a leaf” (Added to iSpot 3rd July, 2012) makes me wonder if bee mouthparts can come in different shapes depending on whether they are retrieving material from leaf surfaces or from flowers.
