Observation - Stripy insect. Description: About two centimetres long, dense colours, a buzz but not a loud one. Big eyes. Shiny, lumpy back. Long wings with a yellow tinge along the upper half and the kind of pattern on them used in drawings of fairies. On the flowers of a cotoneaster. It's eyes

About two centimetres long, dense colours, a buzz but not a loud one. Big eyes. Shiny, lumpy back. Long wings with a yellow tinge along the upper half and the kind of pattern on them used in drawings of fairies. On the flowers of a cotoneaster.
It's eyes cover most of its head, as if it's an extra large hover fly and it doesn't seem to have a wasp waist - but isn't is a bit big (and long) for a bee!? (The angle at which this photo was taken suggests it's squatter than it is - it was impressively long rather than round. Quite a dramatic creature.)
