Facial features of a Speckled Wood butterfly

Observation - Facial features of a Speckled Wood butterfly. Description: The eyes here are at the front of the head rather than at the side and they appear to have a central lens (?) suggestive of stereoscopic vision. Among butterflies, is this a structure that is specific to the Speckled Wood, linked to the aerial aggression

The eyes here are at the front of the head rather than at the side and they appear to have a central lens (?) suggestive of stereoscopic vision. Among butterflies, is this a structure that is specific to the Speckled Wood, linked to the aerial aggression between males in this species? Also, I don’t see a tubular proboscis in these images. Does the Speckled Wood have a more sponge-like structure, geared to soaking up honeydew?
