Was given this handsome exotic about three years ago, and this year, starting in late March it began to produce an enormous flowering stem. This has now finally produced flowers which have just opened. The flowers are green but contrast with the rhubarb red stems.
It is native to Mexico but quite rare in the wild.
Needs a sheltered spot to succeed,I have seen it in quantity on the Isle of Scilly at Tresco. Also grow at Ventnor Botanic Garden.
Was in the Amaryllidaceae family but now placed in the Agavaceae.
