The main point to note is that if you are adding an identification to an iSpot observation, the species names that you will see in the drop-down lists depend on which community you have chosen.

At the moment, if you are in the "UK and Ireland" community you will see the UK Species Inventory names (that is, the names that we have always used on iSpot). If you are in any of the other communities, you will see names from the longer global list of species collated by the Catalogue of Life project, and you won't be able to use the UK names.

You can always see which community you are currently in by looking at the links at the top of the page. Once you've chosen the community you wish to be in, iSpot should remember that choice, you won't have to keep re-setting it (but you can change it whenever you wish).
