This weekend (1-2 June) is Garden BioBlitz weekend - welcome to all who are taking part, especially if you are new to iSpot.
It was great watching the BBC Springwatch presenters getting stuck into their very own Garden BioBlitz last Thursday - watch it at:
Gardens are about the most under-recorded habitat in the country, so what you find this weekend will be adding something new to the national picture! It doesn't matter if your garden is large or small, urban or rural, there will be wildlife in it. And for kids, they can get on their knees and see the wildlife in their garden in a new light.
Why not check out the 'How to take part' page on the Garden BioBlitz website:
Print off the 'Top 20 species to find' tick sheet (you could even use this as a wildlife treasure hunt for kids taking part), make sure you are registered on iSpot to get help with any tricky identifications, and also on iRecord, so you are ready to add your records to the national database - then you're all set!
If you're seeking help with identifying what you've found, add your observations to iSpot and make sure you include the Descriptive tag: #gbb13
All observations on iSpot that are tagged in this way will appear at:
Over the weekend
Over the weekend (and for the next few weeks) there will be updates on the Garden BioBlitz website, giving details of the number of species recorded so far, plus the species that are being seen most often across the country.
The whole Garden Bioblitz team, along with a raft of other amateur and professional wildlife experts, will be monitoring iSpot and Twitter (as well as doing our own Garden BioBlitzes), so let us know how you are getting on, or what you have seen - get in contact!
PS: After the event, and once we've received all your records, we'll be posting stats on our website.
PPS: If you are on Twitter you can also follow the action via @GardenBioblitz, and use the hashtag #gbb13
