This year we are celebrating 100 years of the British Ecological Society! iSpot will be joining in the celebrations during the summer, but things are kicking off with a series of events at festivals around the country.

A team of enthusiastic young ecologists and students will be manning the stall "Sex and Bugs and Rock'n'Roll" at music festivals this summer. The BES 'roadies' will be demonstrating the fun side of ecology with entertaining hands-on activities, using iSpot to demonstrate how to discover which plants and bugs inhabit the festival sites.

Festival-goers will also be able to find out how to grow their own wildflower meadow, see the microbes on their festival feet, or just drop in to explore ecology in a relaxed environment. Check out the BESfest blog to see if they're at a festival near you.

And it all starts tonight and tomorrow!, with the Imperial Festival, at Imperial College, London.

Confirmed festivals after that include:

And iSpot observations from the festivals will be tagged BESfest.
