The 6th ranked largest family in the Cape flora is Scrophulariaceae. Selago is a genus in this family and it is ranked 13 for the number of species in a genera in the Cape flora. It has 100 species, 77 of which are endemic in the area.

Selago are shrubs and herbs with alternate leaves, mostly fascicled. The flowers are small, often in many-flowered head. Calyx is 5-lobed, the corolla is tubular widening slightly at the throat, 5-lobed, 2-lipped or almost regular. They have 4 stames and a 2-chambered ovary. The fruit is a pair of berry-like, hard walled carpels.

The aim of this project is to help us identify the different species.
