Presidentsrus is a small suburb of Middelburg in Mpumalanga situated in a riverine valley. The Presidentsrus area is surrounded by relatively steep hillside slopes which are a direct result of the incision of the Olifants River. The valley has given rise to a rich diversity of tree species which in turn may give rise to a diversity of longicorn beetles. The surrounding area is Highveld grassland in particular Rand Highveld grassland.
The purpose of this project is to determine the diversity of longicorn beetles within this small and semi isolated area.
Conventional methods of longhorn collection will be used to determine the species richness. Besides determining the number of species, we will also record the flight periods of the different species.
