To help iSpotters get an ID on any Fabaceae species in South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland as quickly as possible.

This project can however only be effective if proper photographs are taken to show all distinguishing characteristics of the plants. The collection of herbarium specimens is also encouraged (if you have a permit) and delivered to Bolus or Compton herbarium with the corresponding herbarium form (and CREW site sheet sent if member of CREW).

So please photograph any Fabaceae that we can work on getting an accurate distribution of species and hopefully find a few more new one's.

Don't be scared, this project will help get you ID's as quickly as possible! If there are any queries, please send me an email: [email protected]

The ideal observation for a pea should have:

· a closeup of a branch, showing the leaves and flowerhead arrangement

· a closeup of a flower from the front

· a closeup of a flower from the side

· a closeup of a flower from the back

· a habit shot (showing how the plant grows and whether reseeder or resprouter)

· a habitat shot

· photo of pods, bark, or spines

- If there are any visitors (caterpillars, pollinators, hiders, perchers) please add an interaction to them
- If possible, please make note of the altitude
- If a herbarium specimen is taken, please add the collection number to the observation

NB: To get onto this project, merely add the tag “Fabaceae SOS”. Please use the autocomplete so as not to create lost versions of the tag
