The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park abutts the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana to form the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
The total area of the park is 38,000 square kilometres (15,000 sq mi). Approximately three-quarters of the park lies in Botswana and one-quarter in South Africa.

Kgalagadi means place of thirst. Situated in southern Kalahari Desert of rows of red sand dunes, and hard streets, with sparse vegetation in the dry season and abundant grass in the wet, occasional trees, and the twin riverbeds of the Nossob and Auob Rivers, which flow only a few times each century. Although dry they do carry water underground and during the dry season the riverbeds are the focus of animal life in the region.
