Fabaceae (the Legume or Pea family) is the third largest family of flowering plants after Asteraceae and Orchidaceae in the world. In the Greater Cape Floristic Region this family is the second largest after the daisies. In Manning and Goldblatt (2012) the number of species is given as 764, but new species have recently been found and I am sure there are more undescribed species out there. This project aims to highlight the diversity within the genera (43) and distribution of Peas in the Southern Cape.
