Alien Invasive Plants are the second biggest threat to species and ecosystems in southern Africa - only marginally less important than habitat transformation by agriculture and urbanization. In freshwater ecosystems, alien fish are by far the biggest threat.
The best way to control potential alien invasive species is to keep them out. Failing that, billions of Rands can be saved by striking fast and hard before the alien becomes a major problem. The Alien Rapid Response Programmes are designed to do exactly this.

The National ARRP teams are run by SANBI. Two cities also have ARRP teams: the CIty of Cape Town and Durban.

These pages are to help create an awareness of aliens and their problems in southern Africa.
