Having long failed to find the source of loud, shrill, continuous buzzing nocturnal calls from the dense driveway shrubbery, I finally last night saw silvery movement through an intriguing hole in a Bush-tick Berry leaf. Sure enough, behind the leaf was a small (c. 20mm, excluding long antennae) critter in translucent greenish-yellow.
They fall silent as soon as the torch-beam hits them, but the second pic (my first shot) shows him peering through the hole with wings still unfurled.
The interesting questions are: did he deliberately make the hole to amplify his call? And to watch for approaching ladies/predators/Bushboys?
