Evergreen tree, 5m tall, multiple stems. Leaves simple, opposite, ovate, margin finely toothed except for lower part. Leaf blade narrows towards apex. Leaf glossy green on upper surface, lower surface lighter. Flowers are funnel-shaped (slightly curved); about 40mm long and dark orange. Fruit - fleshy berry, mostly round but some are oval, with persistent style.
