nursery duty

Observation - nursery duty - Southern Africa. Description: column of medium-large ants transversed the garden and disappeared below an old flat lump of concrete, they were carrying dark maroon coloured cocoons and a few white larvae, not sure if they were moving home or whether this was a returning raiding party.

column of medium-large ants transversed the garden and disappeared below an old flat lump of concrete, they were carrying dark maroon coloured cocoons and a few white larvae, not sure if they were moving home or whether this was a returning raiding party. The ants were long and slender, many with substantial jaws; there was a range of body sizes, the Combretum imberbe fruit in photo 2 is roughly 15mm across for scale. Excuse the incidental dustbin ( it had filled with rain water), the ants were marching from an area of the 'garden' beyond the bin
