Pugnacious Ants attack termite workers

Observation - Pugnacious Ants attack termite workers - Southern Africa. Description: Ant body lengths vary from about 4 to 8mm.

Ant body lengths vary from about 4 to 8mm.
A great number of them are very active around the vents of the termite colony. The ants pick off the termites where they work at the edge of the chimneys that they are constructing. Smaller ants gang up on a termite. Once it is immobilized or killed an ant runs off with it, presumably back to the ant nest. The bigger ants tackle a termite alone, but occasionally the termite wins the battle and other termites come to help the victor. They then drag the ant body back into the termite vent. What they do with it then is a mystery, since they are fungiphores.
