Medium sized, very beautiful ants feeding on nectar in chasmanthe flowers. The sizes given in the ID are incorrect: the ants are about half this size [misinterpreted photograph]. Originally collected on forest fringes in India, the ants occur naturally along the south and east coasts of Africa, never in the forest but not far from it. They are very demure and shy, these ladies, so count yourself lucky if you see them in their velvet finery
