Nananthus vittatus grows at the edge of natural pans, in short grass, in black soil. As far as I know, this is the most eastern locality found, just beyond the Gauteng border near Delmas in Mpumalanga. Only three plants were found up to now because of their cryptic nature. Flowers are shiny yellow with a reddish stripe down the middle of the petals.
